Interview with an influencer and professional photographer
All the support I have had for this series of interviews has been overwhelming. Sometimes its hard to commit to an idea, because we cannot tangibly see how it is being received, but the unbelievable engagement I get, whether it be on my feed, through DM’s or wordpress site stats blows my mind. So just for you, I have an absolute treat. I have the pleasure of sharing with you one of my favorite accounts, her magical and illuminated feed will have you feeling all warm inside!
When I first discovered Tara’s account I went into one of those deep and wonderful Instagram rabbit holes, where time passes very very slowly until you realise you have liked about 100 photos and if you don’t stop soon Instagram is going to think you are a robot! Tara’s account is magical, classy, professional and wondrous all in one. Her story is heart aching and heart bursting, she is supportive and creative and pretty awesome. And I feel honored that she has got involved in my little interview series.
Careful, because I warn you now, if you click on the link to her feed you might forget to come back and read her interview, so make sure you read to the end before you go and get as much of her gorgeous babes as you can.
- . How would you describe your Instagram account? (Professional? Hobby? Just for fun? Creative outlet? Something else?)
It definitely started out as a hobby. I posted my son and the occasional client photo. As my following has grown it naturally brought on some business which has been nice. I am in the process of now transitioning into more commercial photography and teaching! It is also my creative outlet and stress reliever!
- When did you start and what motivated you to get into Instagram?
My Instagram started as a personal project in 2016! I was doing a 365 project of my son. In 2015 I lost my baby girl Halle. After that devastating experience I channeled my grief into capturing everyday with my son Anderson. I was overwhelmed with the support I received on Instagram and wanted to use this platform to help others dealing with grief and to keep my daughters memory alive! I use light to represent my sweet Halle in the photos which allows me some peace. It has been very healing for my soul so I will always be grateful for my Instagram journey!
- How does Instagram impact on your day to day life? (For example Time spent? Places you go? Things you do? Because of/for Instagram)
Most of my photos are taken in my home so it is quite easy to maintain. I will shoot 15-30 mins a few times a week. I usually only edit one photo at a time, which takes about 15-20 mins. Occasionally I will take my son on an adventure which he loves! It’s a special bonding activity for both of us so it’s a win win! I don’t do much in to way of styling or overly posed photos. My kids don’t cooperate so I have learned to capture them as they are but still make it beautiful! I bought a fog machine and use it in the house all the time to enhance the light! I also let my son jump on the bed for photos which he loves! Oh, and I use a bubble machine in the house which can get messy but not too bad!4.What have been the positive and/or negative effects of Instagram on your day to day life (for example people you have met? Opportunities that have arisen?)
My favorite thing about Instagram has to be the people! I have made so many wonderful friends that I can’t wait to meet in real life! I feel like I have found the most supportive group of women that I chat with on a regular basis. I have also have been given the opportunity to teach at a workshop in 2018! The business opportunities have been amazing as well. I am able to draw an income while still doing what I love and staying home with my babies! The only negative I can think of is the time that it takes away from my family to stay involved and engaged with my followers! It’s often hard to find the balance but I think that’s how most moms who work feel!
- What, if any, equipment/editing do you use in your photography?
I use a canon 5D Markiii and I have 6 lenses. Canon 24-70mm 2.8, Canon 135mm 2.0, Canon 200mm 2.0, Canon 70-200mm 2.8, sigma art 35mm 1.4, canon 50mm 1.4. I use Lightroom and Photoshop to edit.
- What is your fave image to date and (if different) what was the most liked post?
- What tips would you give somebody who wants to get into instgramming?
Don’t get caught up in the numbers. Stay true to yourself and build honest relationships with people.
- Where do you see your account in 1 years time?
I simply hope I will be teaching and inspiring others to see the beauty in the everyday! I simply hope to be teaching and inspiring others to find the beauty in the everyday!
